Samsung Omnia gets WinMo 6.5 unofficially

May 4, 2009

Omnia owners can now enjoy Microsoft’s shiny new Windows Mobile 6.5 thanks to WoZZeR over at Modaco.com. He has successfully cooked up the first Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM for Verizon’s very own Samsung Omnia i910. However it does come with a catch, the custom ROM has removed many of the Omnia i910’s currently bundled applications including VZ Navigator, VZ AppZone, Digital Frame, Shozu, Silver Inbox and more. Ofcourse in the up side of things, it does add Google Maps, the Official Youtube player, and the WM 6.5 Facebook App. If this ROM sound right for you then head over here to get your WinMo 6.5 on.

Verizon introduces Nationwide Plus Mexico rate plans!

May 3, 2009

Verizon has introduced some very competitive rate plans that are sure to stir up the wireless industry. The new Nationwide Plus Mexico rate plans include international calls to mexico at no additional cost. The plans also include international roaming at mexico which is simply unmatched. The rate plans are only $15 more the the regular rate plans but they do have a few limitations. Unlimited minute plans are not available and mobile-to-mobile calling does not count when calling to or from mexico. Verizon also requires that at least 50% of the calls originate in the U.S. We think the limitations are very fair and we fully expect these rate plans to be very successful. Check out all the details here.

May 2, 2009

The Street has recently published a post regarding the impending arrival of the Blackberry Tour and Blackberry Pearl Flip. They claim that Verizon Wireless plans to announce the launch of the highly anticipated new phones during the company’s WES conference next week. What we find strange is that The Street refers to the Pearl Flip as the Apex (we hope this is only a code name and not the official branding).

The LG VX11000 seems to be getting closer as more information leaks out about this highly anticipated new phone. We have been hearing for a while that Verizon is having issues with the Voyager 2 trademark but now it looks like they might have given in and just changed the name to match with the EnV line of phones. Engadget Mobile is reporting that the name could be the LG EnV Touch which makes a lot of sense to us. We expect this device to launch within months but only time will tell.

Friends and Family can now be added via your phone!

April 28, 2009

Verizon recently added a great new feature to its line of “myverizon enabled” phones that allows customers to manage their Friends and Family! The application lets customers add, delete, and update their Friends and Family numbers directly from their cellphones. To add the new feature customers must head over the their MyVerizon account and add it to each device. If the mobile number is eligible and the device is My Verizon-enabled, a Friends and Family icon or Friends and Family menu will display in the My Verizon Handset application. In the initial launch, it is not available on BlackBerry devices so it looks like we will have to wait a bit longer.
